James Russell & Ann Rutherford

Born in Texas, I majored in Journalism, (sort of), eventually became an art director and when I reviewed great photographer’s portfolios I found my calling. So I learned the basics from the Dallas Public Library studying the Leica Manual, quit my job and got a gig pushing boxes at a large, somewhat unorganized photography studio, then went on my own and did pretty good, shooting about everything (legal) that paid. Hung off oil rigs, did a stint in Chicago, a movie gig in Europe, then…

It took off when I met Ann Rutherford.

Ann was raised in London, was working as a producer and financial whiz at a really high end studio and is the most overwhelming talent I’ve ever known. So being the smart guy that I am, I stole her away and together we have traveled the world, shooting advertising and editorial, still and video, in 20 countries and 2 dozen U.S. states.

Ann produces, styles, handles the business and is way overworked.

Like many in our industry we love what we do, have fun most of the time and live in London and Los Angeles with a great little cat.
